Does Respiro™ prevent SIDS?

No. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is defined as the sudden unexplained death of an infant younger than 1 year of age. It usually occurs in a previously healthy infant, and the cause of death remains unexplained despite a thorough case investigation, including a complete autopsy, death scene investigation, and review of the clinical history. (Source: American Academy of Pediatrics Click here)

Since SIDS is unexplained and therefore we don’t know with certainty what causes it, nothing at this point can definitively prevent it. We do know, however, that there are certain contributing factors that increase the likelihood of SIDS: suffocation and overheating are two such factors. Respiro™ minimizes those risks by providing a completely breathable and ventilated environment that is also hypoallergenic. Click here

Can a baby sleep on its belly if using Respiro™?

Absolutely not. We recommend strict adherence to the guidelines for safe sleeping provided by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Click here

How does Respiro™ compare to traditional crib mattresses?

The Respiro™ Crib Mattress was specifically designed with open air sides to provide 100% breathability for your little one. The absence of foam and stuffing found in other crib mattresses, combined with the machine-washable Sleep Surfaces, creates a hypoallergenic setting, thus significantly reducing the presence of excessive carcinogenic flame-retardants and eliminating the threat of dust mites and bed bugs.

Why is my Respiro Crib™ Mattress difficult to zip?

The Sleep Surfaces, by design, require a certain tension for maximum effectiveness which can make the initial assembly a little challenging. Try this tip when setting up the mattress:

Before locking the frame into position, zip the Sleep Surfaces on each side of the mattress approximately 2 inches. Follow by locking each side of the frame by pulling the metal bar into position. Finish zipping Sleep Surfaces together on both sides.

How strong is the mesh?

We have conducted accelerated use testing using a 200 lbs weight. After this test the mesh maintained its original properties.

Does Respiro™ fit any standard size crib?

Yes. Respiro™ meets the dimensional requirements for crib mattresses as mandated by ASTM standard F2933. Click here

Can I use Respiro™ for my toddler?

Absolutely. We provide a softer side for toddlers from 1 to 3 years of age.

Is the mattress washable?

Yes, the mesh Sleep Surfaces can be easily removed and machine washed and dried. Place Sleep Surfaces in the provided laundry bag and wash on the normal/permanent press cycle; temperature hot. Dry with low heat setting.

Can I purchase additional sleep surfaces?

Yes. We recommend it actually, so in case you need to wash the covers you always have another set ready to go.

Can I use a fitted sheet with Respiro™?

Yes. We designed Respiro™ to provide a very soft and comfortable surface for an infant to sleep on but we understand that parents might find it more practical to use a fitted sheet. Please understand that while a normal cotton sheet is still breathable, any additional layer of material placed on top of our mesh will result in diminished breathability and ventilation.

Is Respiro™ hypoallergenic?

Yes. Dust mites are a known aggravating factor in respiratory ailments and since Respiro™ has no stuffing dust mites cannot hide in it. Furthermore, the mesh Sleep Surfaces can be washed easily, thus providing an always clean, dust-free surface for the baby to sleep on.

Does Respiro™ uses flame retardants?

No, it does not.

Will an "accident" cause a spill on my floor?

Not necessarily. Respiro™ comes complete with a Splash Mat that can be placed between the mattress and the crib mattress support in order to catch the occasional incident.

What is the warranty?

The Respiro™ Crib Mattress includes a limited 20 year warranty against manufacturer’s defects in materials and workmanship

Does Respiro™ comply with any safety standards?

Yes, the Respiro™ Crib Mattress surpasses consumer safety (ASTM F963-16) and breathability standards (ASTM D737-04(2016)).
